Schneider Electric appeals Vancouver, Washington's denial of Clark County's proposal for wood biomass power plant in downtown based on zoning laws

VANCOUVER, Washington , August 16, 2011 (Associated Press) – The company hoping to build a biomass power plant in Vancouver filed an appeal Monday of a zoning decision.

Schneider Electric believes the city planning review manager was wrong in deciding Aug. 4 the plant would not be allowed.

The Columbian reports (http://bit.ly/n3O06w ) the company has partnered with Clark County to build a plant on the site of a former bottling plant. It would burn wood debris to generate electricity to supply heating, cooling and hot water for five county buildings.

Schneider Electric would build and operate the plant with no financial support from taxpayers. It would sell excess power.

Neighbors concerned about pollution oppose the plant.
