The largest biomass plant in Georgia is planned for Laurens County.
The Courier Herald reports that Beasley Forest Products LLC and Land Care Services are partnering to build a 56 megawatt power plant near Dublin called Green Power Solutions. The plan will burn up to 1.2 million tons of wood bark, chips and other biomass annually. It will provide electricity and also steam for an existing paper mill.
The developers say they are finalizing a 20-year agreement to sell electricity to Georgia Power.
Company officials say the project will create up to 150 construction jobs, 55 permanent jobs and support around 200 logging and forestry positions.
