– Japan’s Unicharm Corp. will begin selling its sanitary napkin brand Sofy in India’s metropolitan cities, The Economic Times reported July 7.
Competing with multinational giants like Procter & Gamble and Johnson & Johnson, Unicharm expects that in the next three years it will reach about 10% of the 1,350 rupees crore (or US$78.8 million) market. According to the company’s Managing Director Yukihiro Kimura, the country’s feminine care market is booming but the sanitary napkin sector has room to grow, providing the company with a major opportunity.
With the help of Bollywood actress and brand ambassador Prachi Desai, the company hopes to establish the brand in metropolitan cities before moving on to smaller towns, reported The Economic Times.
