CHARLOTTE, North Carolina , June 22, 2011 (press release) – Huber Engineered Woods LLC, leading manufacturer of innovative building solutions, is unveiling a new advertising campaign for its ZIP System® wall sheathing called “BUILD A MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT HOME WITH ZIP SYSTEM WALL SHEATHING.” The campaign focuses on the energy-efficient performance benefits of ZIP System wall sheathing when installed with ZIP System® tape, a feature that ranked highest in importance among builders1.

According to a recent study conducted by Parker Marketing Research, surveyed builders ranked energy efficiency as the most important product benefit of ZIP System® sheathing. Huber Engineered Woods demonstrates this critical attribute of ZIP System wall sheathing through building trade print and online advertisements starting on July 1.

“Building performance has become increasingly important to builders due to new energy code requirements and homeowner preferences for energy savings and comfort,” stated Charlie Robinson, ZIP System products general manager. “By using ZIP wall sheathing, you can reduce air leakage by 99% compared to housewrap. Just tape the panel seams with ZIP tape to reduce air leakage into and out of the home. This helps protect the R-value of insulation, which reduces heating and cooling costs by an average of 10%.”

The Department of Energy recognizes that air barriers help prevent air leakage in homes, which can account for 30 percent or more of a home’s heating and cooling costs. ZIP System® wall sheathing consists of a wood, structural panel with a built-in protective green barrier that eliminates the need for housewrap. Just apply the cladding directly over the ZIP wall sheathing. It is a structural wall panel, moisture barrier and air barrier all-in-one, providing an air-tight building envelope and superior moisture resistance during and after the construction. The ZIP System® tape gun is used to install ZIP System tape on both the roof and wall products. The ZIP System tape provides moisture resistance for seams, valleys and ridges, and helps reduce air leaks as recommended by the Seal and Insulate with the ENERGY STAR® effort and is code recognized as window and door flashing tape when used with ZIP System wall sheathing (ESR-2227). The new ZIP SystemTM linerless tape makes the framing process even faster, while providing for less waste on the job site.

ZIP System® roof panels also have a built-in protective barrier that serves as a moisture barrier and eliminates the need for felt paper and H-clips. A code-recognized structural panel and underlayment all-in-one, ZIP System roof panels prevent expensive rework due to torn felt, and shingles or tiles can be applied directly to the panels. Since ZIP System® panels are faster to install than traditional methods and provide an instant 180-day rough dry-in, builders can schedule subcontractors sooner, ultimately completing the house in less time.

The performance standards of ZIP System® roof and wall sheathing can be reviewed in the recently issued Verification of Attributes Report™ (VAR-1012) through the ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES®) Sustainable Attributes Verification and Evaluation (SAVE™) Program. This independent, third-party certification provides a technical evaluation on how ZIP System roof and wall sheathing meet code requirements and qualify for points under many prominent green rating systems and building standards.
