Offshore wind farm power line draws opposition in Delaware beach community
A power line proposed by an offshore wind farm developer is running into opposition in Delaware from residents of a beach community.
A number of residents attended a recent Town Council meeting in Bethany Beach to oppose the line proposed by NRG Bluewater, a unit of Princeton, N.J.-based power generation company NRG Energy Inc. The company has agreed to pay up to $85,000 for an independent study on the effects of constructing the line that would connect the offshore wind farm to the grid.
NRG proposed running the line through Bethany Beach after the homeowners association in Middlesex Beach rejected a similar proposal.
Bethany Beach residents have expressed concerns about a number of issues, including electromagnetic radiation, stray voltage, construction, and traffic.
