U.K.'s British Polythene Industries appoints Ian Russell to independent non-executive director, chairman of company's audit committee, effective July 1

LONDON , June 20, 2011 (press release) – British Polythene Industries PLC (“BPI”) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ian Russell (58) as an independent Non-Executive Director of the Company and as Chairman of the Audit Committee with effect from 1 July 2011.
 
Ian is Chairman of Johnston Press Plc, Advance Power AG and of Remploy Ltd and a Non-Executive Director of The Mercantile Investment Trust plc and British Assets plc. He is adviser to Clyde Bergemann Power Group and Chairman of the campaigning board for the University of Edinburgh and was previously Chief Executive of Scottish Power plc. A Chartered Accountant by profession, Ian has had a career in finance working for companies such as HSBC, Mars Limited and KPMG.
 
Commenting on the appointment, Cameron McLatchie, Chairman said:
 
“I am delighted to welcome Ian to the Board. His extensive experience on a number of boards makes him an ideal candidate to chair the Audit Committee, and his knowledge of energy, pensions and investments will certainly assist us in our deliberations on these increasingly important issues.”
 
There are no other details to be disclosed in respect of the requirements of paragraph 9.6 13R of the Listing Rules of the UK Financial Services Authority.
