LOS ANGELES , June 17, 2011 () – Holcim Ltd. is seeking out merger and acquisitions opportunities in China in an effort to build an expansion base, Chairman Rolf Soiron said during a presentation in Geneva, Switzerland, Bloomberg reported June 17.

The Chinese government recognized that consolidation in the cement market is necessary and that Holcim is one of the companies approved to take part in the movement, Soiron said.

Holcim is also focusing its efforts on increasing capacity in India, as the country’s increasing population fuels demand for spending on housing, roads, ports and bridges.

Holcim also has plans to expand in Brazil, Soiron said, Bloomberg reported.
