West Fraser Mills sponsors Northern Climate Change Network presentation in Williams Lake, British Columbia, on reducing carbon footprint

WILLIAMS LAKE, British Columbia , May 13, 2011 () – The first installment of the 2011 Forest Capital Speaker Series with speaker Dave Leman takes place in the Williams Lake City council chambers this Wednesday, May 18 starting at 7 p.m.

The series is sponsored by the Cariboo Regional District’s Forest Capital of Canada Committee. This series event is sponsored by West Fraser Mills – Quesnel Division. The presentations are free

Leman will be presenting Reducing Our Carbon Footprint and will offer ideas on how individuals and communities can reduce their carbon footprint, with reference to some of the traditional and emerging technologies, practices and programs which can be easily implemented.

Passionate about environmental stewardship, Leman has been the co-ordinator of the Northern Climate Change Network for the past three years.

He was also a University of Northern B.C. employee for 10 years and worked as a project co-ordinator within the Northern Land Use Institute in addition to being engaged in consulting work for Resources North Association, the BC Sustainable Energy Association (BCSEA), and the City of Prince George.

He has undertaken volunteer work for numerous organizations including time in East Africa with the African Conservation Fund and the Tanzania Bird Atlas Project. Recently, he has been instrumental in developing a project to install solar panels on an elementary school in Prince George, with visions of exploring renewable energy options for northern communities.

Leman holds a master’s degree in environmental design from the University of Calgary.

As part of the series Leman is also making presentations at The Lodge, Valley Room in 100 Mile House Tuesday, May 17 at 7 p.m. and in the Quesnel City council chambers on Thursday, May 19 at 7 p.m.

The sessions are open to the general public and organizations that are interested in climate action at no cost.
