BETHESDA, Maryland , April 14, 2011 (press release) – Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE:MAR) has been named to Working Mother’s second annual list of Best Companies for Hourly Workers. Marriott was one of 12 companies on the list, which celebrates businesses working to provide family-friendly benefits that promote health/wellness, education, flexibility and work-life integration. Best Companies for Hourly Workers honorees must have a minimum of 50 percent hourly workers in order to submit their data for this distinction.

“Our associates are not just important to our business,” said J.W. Marriott, Jr., chairman and CEO, “they are the heart of the Marriott culture. It is their talent, experience and dedication to service that make it possible for us to serve millions of customers. It is their warmth, caring and sense of family and community that brings so many customers back to stay with us again and again.”

Marriott strives to provide all associates with a great workplace, and a world of opportunities for personal and professional growth. Benefits that help support this goal include language skills training, financial supports, job training, and tuition reimbursement. A year ago, Marriott introduced its TakeCare health and wellness program, designed to provide easy and fun new ways to learn about health, as well as tips to help associates and their families choose health every day. In addition to this new program, Marriott offers special benefits that support hourly associates, including a free 24/7/365 consultation hotline, free preventive care, lower-cost drugs for chronic conditions, "know your numbers" program, and health fairs.

“Managers are always very caring and work with all of us to create the schedule each of us needs,” said Dibya Regmi, front desk office representative at the Bethesda Marriott Suites in Md. “Marriott has many big opportunities and benefits too – it’s wonderful working here!” Dibya is an example of an associate taking advantage of Marriott’s tuition reimbursement and workplace flexibility to study for her degree in Hospitality Management. Dibya started out as a hostess and was quickly promoted to her current position.

The winners and methodology are detailed in Working Mother’s May issue, and on iPad (search: working mother). Corporate Voices for Working Families serves as knowledge partner for the Working Mother Best Companies for Hourly Workers initiative.
