$1.7 BILLION INVESTMENT WILL ALLOW FOR NEW, LOW COST RENEWABLE ENERGY
Today, Grain Belt Express Clean Line LLC, a subsidiary of Clean Line Energy Partners LLC of Houston, Texas, filed an application with the Kansas Corporation Commission for transmission-only utility status. This filing is part of a two-step process in Kansas. The Grain Belt Express Clean Line plans to file line-siting applications in both Kansas and Missouri after conducting outreach in both states and identifying a proposed route.
The Grain Belt Express Clean Line will consist of approximately 550-miles of overhead, high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission lines, which will deliver up to 3500 megawatts of clean energy from Kansas to southeastern Missouri and points farther east. The project will encourage the manufacturing of wind turbine components and create thousands of jobs. The Grain Belt Express Clean Line will attract wind farm developers to the region and also generate millions of dollars in state and local tax revenues while addressing the nation’s ongoing efforts to increase energy security.
Clean Line President Michael Skelly said, “The Grain Belt Express Clean Line will be an important economic contributor to rural communities in Kansas and Missouri. Wind energy provides benefits to local economies but in order for the industry to continue to grow, the clean energy must have a way to get to market. Similar to the trains that carried grains harvested in the Midwest to markets farther east, we need to have transmission lines to transport clean energy to communities and cities that have an appetite for low cost renewable power.”
About Clean Line Energy Partners: Clean Line’s mission is to connect abundant, renewable energy resources to areas that have a high demand for clean, reliable energy. Clean Line is developing a series of high-voltage direct current transmission projects to move renewable energy to market. For more information please visit www.CleanLineEnergy.com.
