American Packaging completes US$16.5M expansion of Story City, Iowa, flexographic printing and laminating facility

American Packaging Corporation recently completed its $16.5 Million plant expansion at its Flexographic Printing and Laminating facility in Story City Iowa. The project included the purchase of several new pieces of equipment, facility upgrades as well as 20,000 square feet additional space. New state-of-the-art equipment includes: 10 color W&H Vistaflex flexographic press, Bobst duplex laminator, Deacro turreted duplex slitter, Deacro master roll rewinder, Leader fully automated plate mounter, a thermal oxidizer, and other auxiliary equipment. The expansion called for hiring of 30 new fulltime positions at the facility. A sustainable focus was observed throughout the expansion process, including installation of sky lights to provide natural lighting, roof insulation providing an R value of 3. The new laminator uses high solids dry bond adhesives for reduced VOCs and is designed with Permanent Total Enclosure of the coating station which offers energy and exhaust reduction benefits.

The investment by the American Packaging demonstrates its continued confidence in its business and desire to grow with its customers. This expansion follows a $12.7MM expansion at its Extrusion Laminating and Coating facility in Rochester NY completed in 2009 and a $13MM expansion at its Rotogravure Printing and Laminating, Columbus WI facility in 2006.
