University of Vermont, Sandia National Laboratories using US$1M DOE grant to plan, launch partnership with state utilities, companies to research alternative energy technologies, transmission

BURLINGTON, Vermont , November 5, 2010 () – The University of Vermont and the Sandia National Laboratories are hoping to launch a new research partnership with some of the state's utilities and alternative energy companies.

The collaboration would focus on new energy technologies and how to connect renewable energy projects and conservation to the national electrical grid.

Planning for the project is under way with a $1 million grant from the Department of Energy.

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders said Friday that a possible Sandia satellite facility in the state that would be dedicated to research on energy efficiency would be a boost for electric ratepayers and energy researchers.

Sandia is government-owned and operated under contract by Lockheed Martin.
