Illinois will spend more than $15 million to help an established company stay in the state.
The investment package from the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity means Tate & Lyle PLC, a provider of speciality food ingredients, will move from Decatur to Hoffman Estates.
The company will set up a "commercial and food innovation center" there. DCEO director Warren Ribley calls the move from Decatur "unfortunate" but says the company will invest $26 million, stay in Illinois with 300 jobs and create 20 new ones.
Hoffman Estates will be global headquarters of the "innovation and commercial development group" and regional headquarters for speciality food ingredients in North America.
A total of 160 jobs will be located in the Chicago suburb and the center will open by the end of 2011.
