J.M. Smucker to close two condiment manufacturing plants in Ontario, Canada, by November 2011, shifting manufacturing to U.S. facility and contract manufacturers

PORTLAND, Oregon , September 28, 2010 (Associated Press) – J.M. Smucker Co. says it will shut down two of its pickle and condiment plants in Canada, cutting 150 jobs.

The food maker is closing its manufacturing plant in Dunnville, Ontario, and its pickle tank farm in Delhi Township, Ontario, in November 2011 to cut costs.

According to a document filed with regulators on Tuesday, the company plans to shift the work on its Bick's pickle and condiment business to third-party manufacturers in the U.S. and an existing company plant in Ripon, Wis.

Smucker expects the move will save it $8 million annually.

The cuts come on top of the company's announcement in March that it would close four plants and cut 700 jobs to save $60 million annually.

Shares of Smucker, which is based in Orrville, Ohio, rose 19 cents to close at $61.24.
