The Hallmark greeting card plant in Siloam Springs is laying off 34 workers and cutting a total of 53 positions.
The Thursday announcement affects the DaySpring Cards plant where more than 325 workers make Christian-themed cards.
The 19 unfilled positions that are part of the cut came open when workers quit over the course of the year.
Kansas City, Mo.-based Hallmark says the 34 laid-off workers were offered severance packages and help finding new jobs.
The layoffs are not immediate. Some workers will stay at DaySpring through the end of the year, and some will work another two weeks.
The privately-held company says the prolonged economic downturn is the reason for the layoffs.
