No Homemade Cinnamon Rolls And Other Dark Truths Behind Father's Day

LOS ANGELES , June 18, 2019 (Industry Intelligence Inc.) – Where the $%#@% are my cinnamon rolls?!?!

That was my very first thought on my very first Father’s Day. My nanny didn’t make me any cinnamon rolls and I wanted to know why.

You see, for Mother’s Day my nanny went all out for my wife. A card, a gift, a big heart-shaped balloon with pictures of my son attached to it, and yes the aforementioned homemade cinnamon rolls. But for Father’s Day? No cinnamon rolls. In fact, there was nothing whatsoever waiting for me to indicate this was anything other than a typical Sunday.

And that’s when I learned firsthand the following harsh reality:

We’re a society that celebrates Mother’s Day like it’s Christmas in May. Father’s Day, however, gets no love.

Now I’m not naïve. I know full well the importance of the mother’s role in the life of a child. As important as the dad’s role is, let’s face it: Mom’s role is more important. Plus, moms are expected to do a lot more than dads, even in today’s society that encourages more equal parenting between the mother and father. I honestly get more praise for changing my son’s diaper than my wife would if she saved our son from a burning building while simultaneously nursing and changing him while running from the flames.

So yes, moms certainly deserve a holiday that’s devoted solely to them. They deserve cards, gifts, balloons, homemade sweets and pretty much everything else their hearts desire. They’ve more than earned it.

And I’m not saying I deserve everything moms get. I don’t need a huge show. I don’t need tons of gifts or praise or even many people wishing me a Happy Father’s Day.

All I’m saying is:

One cinnamon roll. I deserve one cinnamon roll.
