Finally Joining The Plant-Burger Craze

– This past weekend, I bit the bullet and joined the plant-based burger craze.
This was a big moment for me. Earlier this year, I wrote about my hesitation in trying such menu items. It’s just that I’ve grown up on fast-food beef burgers for so long that having one of these vegan creations would almost be like saying goodbye to a big part of my life. Beef is all I know when I go to a drive-thru. What if I went plant based and didn’t like it? What if I couldn’t adapt to this new world?
But times change and we must change with the times. So on Saturday, I bit the bullet and went to my local Carl’s Jr., where I ordered the Beyond Famous Star, featuring a plant-based burger patty from Beyond Meat. For fairness purposes, I ordered it the way I typically order a Famous Star: extra cheese, extra mayo, no lettuce.
It was fantastic!
From the very first bite, I felt like I was sitting with my family outside in the backyard around a long table celebrating the Fourth of July with a burger hot off the grill. The Beyond Famous Star was tender, juicy and literally melted in my mouth. I’m kicking myself for not trying this burger months ago.
Before this burger, I had had one vegan patty experience in my life. It was years ago and was a frozen patty made by a well-known brand that I won’t embarrass by mentioning, because the patty was flat-out awful and made me swear off anything vegan or plant-based. But the Beyond Famous Star did what so many other such products failed to do: Taste like the real thing.
I said goodbye to a big part of my life over the weekend.
But I said hello to the future.
