Forestweb Communication Papers Index gains in June
LOS ANGELES , June 15, 2007 (press release) – The Forestweb North American Communications Papers Index rose 1.36% month-to-month in June, reflecting higher prices for cutsize freesheet grades.
The index level of 124.11 was 2.47% higher than June 2006 and showed improvement of 2.75% through six months. The Communication Papers Index uses shipments and average prices for both cutsize and uncoated freesheet offset rolls, and some of announced $60/ton May price hikes for cutsize have been implemented.
The Communication Papers Index is a component of the Forestweb North American Printing & Writing Index which fell 0.33% month-to-month from a downwardly revised May level. That composite index was down 6.12% year-over-year and is down 4.06% this year.
Forestweb’s price indices are Laspeyres indices that represent a statistical measure of a weighted average of printing and writing paper, pulp and paperboard prices and which summarize the relative changes in price levels over time using an arbitrarily chosen base period. All Forestweb indices use the base year 2000 except for pulp, which uses 2001 as the base year.
