Markem-Imaje will be inviting attendees to experience its exciting cross-sector print and packaging innovations at Toronto’s PACK EX from November 7-9. “Manufacturers and retailers need to increasingly embrace the cost-saving, production-boosting benefits of ever-evolving packaging technology that also helps to protect brand reputation, margins, and consumer demands,” says Shouvick Basak, Sales Manager for Canada at Markem-Imaje. “This is why we have been innovating solutions that save on costs and contamination, and, above all, ensure compliance with the newest industry regulatory requirements and standards like the Health Canada’s Food Labelling Requirements, the US FDA’s Food Safety Modernization Act’s (FSMA) Final Rule and GS1 Digital Link.” Markem-Imaje will be showcasing the latest in continuous inkjet (CIJ), thermal transfer Overprinting (TTO), large character inkjet (LCIJ) and laser coding. The recently-launched Markem-Imaje 9750 range of CIJ printers are capable of powerful traceability coding required for compliance with upcoming regulations including text messages up to five lines, logos, and high resolution 1D and 2D codes, on a vast array of packaging. Within the range are models specifically developed for the FMCG sector peak results, even in high humidity, dusty conditions, and on ultra-fast lines; the first hybrid CIJ coder with the flexibility to mark with either dyes or pigmented inks; and a model primed for producing camera-readable GS1-compliant dynamic codes as small as 5mm, or 0.2 inches high. The 9750 is also compatible with a range of rigorously developed ink formulations, including a large MEK-free ink portfolio that helps reduce consumable consumption and Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emissions by up to 50%, as well as a newly launched high adhesion solution. The 5940 G high-resolution large character printer is the latest in LCIJ or Piezo technology to be launched and will also be on display. The printer is primed for a varied range of secondary packaging applications, including corrugated cases, trays of fresh produce, polystyrene for frozen foods, shrink-wrap for pallet shipments, as well as on porous surfaces including fabrics and non-wovens. The 5940 G employs Markem-Imaje patented Touch Dry® inks that instantly dry on contact and are solvent-free, safe to handle and less harmful for the environment. Within TTO, on show at PACK EX will be the SmartDate® X65 that delivers high resolution coding on flexible film packaging as fast as 455 packs per minute, providing the most reliable high-quality codes on flow-wrappers, bags, tray seals, pouches, sachets, vacuum packs or labels. Another attraction at the Markem-Imaje stand will be its SmartLase® C350 30-Watt CO2 laser that offers best-in-class laser performance for permanent, high-quality and compliant 1D and 2D codes in many applications including food, confectionery, dairy, beverage, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and industrial. The SmartLase® C350 prints up to 2,100 characters/second and 150,000 products/hour. PACK EX, held at Toronto Congress Centre between 7-9 November 2023, is Canada’s only dedicated packaging event.
