Grand Opening at 11AM on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 Tucson, AZ – September 18, 2024 – Barnes & Noble is thrilled to announce the opening of its new Tucson bookstore at 11AM MT on Wednesday, September 25th. The new Barnes & Noble is located in the Tucson Mall (4500 North Oracle Road, Tucson, AZ 85705) in the space formerly occupied by The Children’s Place next to Vans, near H&M. “The ongoing growth in book sales as a whole — and particularly for Barnes & Noble — allows us to open new bookstores at a pace we have not achieved in decades,” said James Daunt, CEO, Barnes & Noble. “Now we open beautiful bookstores of all sizes, including this one, our third in Tucson.”
Barnes & Noble is enjoying a period of tremendous growth as the strategy to hand control of each bookstore to its local booksellers has proven so successful. The bookseller is experiencing strong sales in its existing stores and has been opening many new stores after more than 15 years of declining store numbers. In 2023, Barnes & Noble opened more new bookstores in a single year than it had in the whole decade from 2009 to 2019. The bookseller expects to open over 50 new bookstores in 2024.
The Tucson location is one of nine new Barnes & Noble bookstores to open this September, alongside new locations in TX, PA, DE, NY, NV, and TN. Each grand opening has drawn enthusiastic crowds that wrap around the building, filling the store as the ribbon is cut.
“I am very excited to start the next chapter of bookselling with the opening of the newest Barnes & Noble in Tucson,” said Store Manager Jaime Cross, Barnes & Noble bookseller of 25 years. “Regular customers of our Westside bookstore will recognize several friendly faces here in their new Tucson Mall Barnes & Noble — and we cannot wait to welcome people into this brand-new location.
