National Book Club Selection: This Is a Love Story by Jessica Soffer The bookseller also highlights four new Albums of the Month New York, NY – January 29, 2025 – Barnes & Noble is thrilled to announce the newest books and music to be featured in Barnes & Noble bookstores nationwide. This Is a Love Story is the February National Book Club pick and the bookseller welcomes readers to join author Jessica Soffer at a free live virtual event on Tuesday, March 4th at 3PM ET. The author will be in conversation with Lexie Smyth, Category Manager for Fiction at Barnes & Noble to discuss the title as well as answer questions from audience members. Attendees must register via Eventbrite to access the livestream on Zoom. In this love letter to New York City, Jane and Abe recount the life they’ve spent together as Jane’s nears its end. Theirs is a stained-glass story, made up of fragmented moments in time that together create a colorful mosaic. Soffer’s prose is lyrical and lethal on the page, capturing our hearts and bruising them with this intimate portrait of relationships and how they evolve and devolve over time. This book is one that will live in readers’ hearts long after the last page. The Barnes & Noble Book Club showcases a newly published work of fiction each month, chosen by their booksellers to provoke, engage and enthrall book lovers. The Barnes & Noble Exclusive Edition of This Is a Love Story features special end papers, as well as an exclusive essay from the author herself. Leading up to the event, readers can share their thoughts and engage in conversation on social media using the hashtag #BNBookClub. During the livestream, readers are encouraged to participate in the discussion and submit questions to be answered throughout. Barnes & Noble is also pleased to announce its February selections for Albums of the Month in the following categories: Singer-Songwriter, Soundtrack, Alternative, and Jazz. The Album of the Month program celebrates the full spectrum of the music industry, highlighting both fresh and classic albums across an array of genres. In the Singer-Songwriter category, Eliott Smith’s Either/Or is the achingly beautiful third studio album from a true artist who left this world far too soon. Director Gus Van Sant was so taken with Smith’s music he included three of these songs in the Good Will Hunting soundtrack — “Between the Bars”, “Angeles”, and “Say Yes”. In the Soundtrack category, The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to Lost in Translation features songs by Phoenix, Air, My Bloody Valentine and more. It’s the perfect moody accompaniment to Sofia Coppola’s quirky 2003 film. The Alternative Monthly Pick, Depression Cherry, by Beach House, invites you to light a candle, dim the lights, and settle in with the lush dream pop and whispered vocals of this duo. The Jazz Monthly pick goes to Etta James At Last!, featuring the now iconic title track. Showcasing her raw talent, the album also includes classic and enduring hits like “All I Could Do Was Cry”, “I Just Want to Make Love to You”, and “Stormy Weather”. All four of the February Albums of the Month are available as limited special pressings with colored vinyl exclusively at Barnes & Noble. ###
