Fiber-based packaging expert Graphic Packaging International is celebrating a gold-plated 2022 after scooping 25 awards over the course of the year. The list of prestigious prizes, which were spread over ten competitions, includes the Paperboard Packaging Council (PPC) Awards, European Carton Excellence Awards, PAC Global Awards, and the esteemed WorldStar Awards. It marks a bumper twelve months of creativity and quality enjoyed by both Graphic Packaging and its customers. Dan Ahern, Graphic Packaging’s director, global innovation and design was jubilant after the latest wins – eight successes at the PPC Awards, including the coveted Paperboard Package of the Year, Innovation of the Year and the Richard DePaul award for Creative Converting and Design. He commented, “I am so proud of the entire innovation team at Graphic Packaging. The fact that we won three of the top five PPC awards is recognition of their passion and commitment to innovation. It is also so rewarding to be recognized by our industry peers. “We aim to lead the way when it comes to innovation in the paperboard space and this year’s awards will help us build our innovation momentum as we move into 2023.” The year has been defined by wide ranging recognition gained for the expanded portfolio of innovations following Graphic Packaging’s acquisition of AR Packaging, completed in 2021. The portfolio welcomed Boardio™, which has earned five awards in 2022, including Paperboard Package of the Year in the PPC Awards, two Ameristar awards, and a PAC Global award. Crafted from more than 90 percent renewable fiber, Boardio is a sustainable, recyclable alternative to plastic and metal canisters that offers superior versatility and flexibility across an expansive range of applications. Other innovations in the spotlight include PaperSeal™, the highly successful fiber-based barrier tray range that replaces traditional plastic trays for fresh and processed meats, fish, prepared fruit and salads, cheese and pasta. Winning an amazing three WorldStar awards, including a Special Award in Sustainability and an Ameristar award, PaperSeal built on the impressive string of successes it achieved in 2021. Slashing plastic use by up to 90 percent compared to traditional trays, PaperSeal had eliminated over 2,280 tonnes of plastic from global supply chains by the start of 2022. Innovations in the beverage category were recognized with an incredible seven awards, including two for KeelClip™ – a recyclable paperboard pack that replaces plastic rings and shrink films on beverage containers. KeelClip has seen outstanding success, having been adopted by some of the world’s largest beer and soft drinks brands, with over 550 million packs sold worldwide and 1,500 tonnes of plastic eliminated in 2021 alone. Complementing the sweep of beverage packaging awards, the ClipCombo™ machinery solution won a PACK EXPO Technology Excellence Award in the Sustainability category, a focus area for beverage customers. Ahern added, “We are excited to continue our innovation journey to bring our customers sustainable packaging that meets the needs of consumers – and the planet.” Here’s the full list of awards received in 2022: DieLine Awards: WorldStar Awards: PAC Global Awards Swiss Packaging Awards European Carton Excellence Awards AmeriStar Awards Good Design Award (Japan) Prêmio Grandes Cases de Embalagem 2022 Award (Brazil) PPC Awards Pack Expo Technology Excellence Awards
