April 15, 2025 (press release) –
Issue 1 available now!
WhatTheyThink, the graphic communication industry’s leading news and information resource, is excited to announce the launch of the WhatTheyThink Quarterly Journal, a new online publication designed to provide in-depth commentary and analysis on printing industry trends. Every quarter, the Quarterly will take a deep dive into the various aspects of a single topic, as well as offer ongoing coverage of hot-button issues impacting the industry. The Quarterly Journal is a standalone publication on the WhatTheyThink platform, with content written specifically for the Journal. Contributors to the Quarterly Journal include expert contributors from both inside and outside the industry as well as WhatTheyThink’s regular stable of writers and analysts.
Issue 1—online now—is called “The AI Reality Check,” and takes a deep dive into so-called “artificial intelligence.” What are those use cases? What is it good for? And what is it not good for? A few of the long-form articles in Issue 1 include:
- Contributing editor Don Carli talks with Caleb Briggs, co-author of the bestselling book The AI Conundrum about the advantages—and dangers—of AI as it currently stands.
- Kelly Lawrence looks at “The Potential of AI In The Printing Industry: Real or Hype?” and explains how AI can be leveraged to enhance efficiency, decision-making, and creativity across nearly every function.
- Regular WhatTheyThink contributors Pat McGrew and Ryan McAbee take a deep dive into “AI in Print Production: Navigating Fact & Fiction.”
- Smithers’ Adam Page looks at “The Impact of AI on Printing and Packaging.”
- In “Today’s AI: So Good You Don’t Need Humans (Except You Do),” Heidi Tolliver-Walker explains how some of the downsides of AI fundamentally change how we think about and use the technology.
- WhatTheyThink managing editor Richard Romano looks at how AI is being used in signage and display graphics for design as well as sales and training.
- And much more.
The other Quarterly issues for 2025 are:
- The Total Package Issue (Q2)
- The Intelligent Automation Issue (Q3)
- The Leadership Issue (Q4)
