Valmet earns another ISCC PLUS certification for its paper machine clothing production

Feb 17, 2025

Valmet has earned another International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS certification for its paper machine clothing production – this time for the unit in Ovar, Portugal. In the end of 2024, Valmet’s production unit in Tampere, Finland, earned the same certification.

Obtaining the ISCC PLUS certifications demonstrates Valmet’s commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of its paper machine clothing.

“Developing products with bio-based or recycled materials is a long journey, and we are very happy to have earned the ISCC PLUS certification for two of our production units so far. The certifications show that our production processes are well-structured and thoroughly documented, ensuring easy traceability of materials throughout the entire supply chain. As a result, our customers are assured that bio-based raw materials are really applied in the production of our fabrics,” says Mika Lahtinen, Director, Research and Development, Fabrics at Valmet.

In Ovar, Portugal, Valmet manufactures dryer fabrics used in board and paper production.

“The ISCC PLUS certification gives us the opportunity to develop products with bio-based or recycled materials using the mass balance approach. For our customers, it means access to dryer fabrics with the same excellent performance as before, but with a significantly lower carbon footprint – helping them to meet their emission related targets. I’m excited to say that we are planning to launch new dryer fabrics with bio-based materials still this year,” says Tero Ylikoski, Senior Manager, Forming & Dryer fabrics at Valmet.

The International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) is an independent multi-stakeholder initiative and leading certification system supporting sustainable, fully traceable supply chains.
