US Patent Issued to Stora Enso on April 1 for "Foam formed solid composite comprising nanocellulose and solid low-density particles" (Finnish Inventors)

April 2, 2025 (U.S. Fed News) –

ALEXANDRIA, Va. , April 2 -- United States Patent no. 12,264,227, issued on April 1 , was assigned to Stora Enso OYJ (Helsinki) .

"Foam formed solid composite comprising nanocellulose and solid low-density particles" was invented by Kaj Backfolk ( Lappeenranta, Finland ) and Isto Heiskanen ( Imatra, Finland ).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office : "The present invention relates to a foam formed solid composite, comprising: a matrix phase consisting of a mixture of nanocellulose, at least one foaming agent, and optional additives, and a dispersed phase consisting of solid low-density particles having a density of less than 1.2 kg/dm3. The present invention further relates to a method and a liquid foam composition for manufacturing the solid composite."

The patent was filed on Dec. 15, 2020 , under Application No. 17/756,983.
