U. S. Steel Takes Its Merger Case to Voters

7/29/2024 - United States Steel Corporation has turned to a new tactic as it pushes to brings its US$14.9 billion merger with Nippon Steel Corp. to fruition: pitching the public directly. 
According to the (Pittsburgh, Pa.) Tribune-Review newspaper, the steelmaker has sent mailers to homes in Western Pennsylvania urging residents to “Tell your elected officials to support the U. S. Steel and Nippon Steel partnership.”

Mergers and acquisitions consultant Jennifer Fondrevay told the newspaper that companies in the midst of a merger commonly will notify customers or lobby members of Congress. 

"But this is the first time Fondrevay has seen a company talk directly to voters in this way,” the newspaper reported.
