July 30, 2024 (press release) –

Three technically and creatively interesting projects that found in RDM Group’s recycled cardboard the ideal ally are shortlisted for the ECEA24, the European Carton Excellence Awards promoted by Pro Carton and ECMA. The European Carton Excellence Award (ECEA) is the most prestigious and respected prize in the cartonboard industry.

Parmareggio by Granterre, close-loop, made with own carton for recycling

Cartonboard Manufacturer: RDM Group

Carton Converter: Artigrafiche Reggiane

Three companies, GranTerre, AGR, and RDM Group, decided to team up to close the loop on circularity. RDM Group is the producer of recycled cartonboard who was provided with waste materials coming from the same value chain and literally the same product that is on the market. Then, the own source paper for recycling (which otherwise would become a waste/PfR) was recycled again into a new product and a new cartonboard was made with 25% own waste from the brand packaging and 90% of recycled content in total.

The campaign is promoting circularity at the local level and driving the awareness and education at the early stages of social responsibility, as part of the “Back to School” campaign. A genuine demonstration of taking ownership of recycling of own packaging waste. Needless to say, the cartonboard product is FSC-certified and “Class A” recyclable.

Míša multipack

Cartonboard Manufacturer: RDM Group

Carton Converter: Cardbox – Packaging, a. s.

The new multipack for Míša cheesecake desserts brings a family pack to the market, which is not only cost-effective for the consumer but also emphasizes sustainability, as it is made of RDM Group’s 100% recycled and recyclable cartonboard.

The hotmelt applied on the bottom part, covered with a silicone strip, facilitates subsequent assembling during the final packaging of the products. The finished carrier can hold up to four cheesecakes, making it easy to handle when purchasing larger quantities. Short messages within the traditional graphics guide consumers to sort waste correctly and thus also have an educational function.

Union Mels – Butter Cookies

Cartonboard Manufacturer: RDM Group (Barcelona Cartonboard)

Carton Converter: Alzamora Group

The customer was looking for differentiated packaging for their Halloween cookies campaign that would appeal to families and differentiate at the point of sale. They wanted also to offer users the possibility of collecting the packs. Finally, it is worth mentioning that they had specific dimensions that had to be met for logistical and product capacity reasons.

The solution designed is five types of original and eye-catching packaging, each representing a characteristic Halloween element. The most remarkable thing about the product is how each of the packs has the format of its design, standing out from the rest of the products on the market, and inciting to collect the different models.

Public Vote – Pro Carton

Founded in 1997 and hosted by Pro Carton and the European Carton Makers Association (ECMA), the ECEA celebrates the most innovative cartonboard packaging designs from some of the world’s most renowned brands, innovative design agencies, and Europe’s finest cartonboard converters.

The Pro Carton and ECMA team will announce the winner of the Public Award 2024 at this year’s Awards Gala in Berlin, Germany on 19th September 2024.

We are delighted to announce that the packaging project, conceived by RDM Group, the converter Arti Grafiche Reggiane (AGR) and the brandowner GranTerre, has been shortlisted for the European Carton Excellence Award by Pro Carton 2024!

RDM Group, University of Pisa and CPTM, Consorzio Polo Tecnologia Magona, worked together on a research project for the use of pulper waste in paper mills, aimed at the production of thermal/electric energy for self-consumption. The research’s outcome was presented at the end of July in Lisbon, at the ‘Water, Waste and Energy Management’ Congress (WWEM-24).

RDM Group’s Barcelona mill has launched and is now offering a water resistant GD2 board, Triplex Gris Water-Resistant (WR), that can help packaging and brand to improve performance under freezing and cooling conditions.
