With four awards and four finalists, The Times is recognized for reporting on international conflict, a local opioid crisis and breaking news photography.

The New York Times won four Pulitzer Prizes. The winners are:
Explanatory Reporting

Azam Ahmed, Christina Goldbaum and Matthieu Aikins won the Explanatory Reporting prize for reporting on how the United States sowed the seeds of its own demise long before the war in Afghanistan ended.
International Reporting

Declan Walsh and the staff of The New York Times won the International Reporting prize for reporting on the horrific consequences of Sudan’s civil war, right now the worst humanitarian crisis in the world yet much ignored, and secretly driven by foreign leaders jockeying for power and profit.
Local Reporting

Alissa Zhu, Nick Thieme and Jessica Gallagher of The Baltimore Banner and The New York Times won the Local Reporting prize for a series on Baltimore’s opioid crisis and its disproportionate impact on older Black men. The series was done in collaboration with The Times’s Local Investigations Fellowship.
