June 16, 2025 (PaperFirst Magazine) –
Stora Enso and Metsähallitus Parks & Wildlife Finland have launched a nearly six-year cooperation aimed at conserving Finland’s endangered freshwater pearl mussel, Paper First reported on June 16. The project, running from 1 July 2025 to the end of 2030, will focus on mapping, inventorying, and restoring mussel habitats, as well as rehabilitating watercourses and improving information systems. Stora Enso will support the program with EUR 1.1 million and technical expertise, while Metsähallitus Parks & Wildlife Finland will lead the conservation efforts. This initiative is part of Stora Enso’s environmental sustainability action plan, developed in response to the 2024 Hukkajoki environmental incident.
