SMA Quoted in Article on Steel for Replacement Bridge in Baltimore

Steel salvaged from the site of the Key Bridge disaster in Baltimore will likely be turned into new steel by Steel Manufacturers Association member companies, SMA President Philip K. Bell tells the Baltimore Banner.

And SMA members are well positioned to produce new steel for the replacement bridge over the Patapsco River, he said.

“There’s ‘plenty of sustainable steelmaking capacity,’ he said in an email, ‘within a 500-mile radius of Baltimore. They can make the steel with short lead times.’”

Read “Biden promised a new bridge built with American steel. Could some of it come from Baltimore?” at the Baltimore Banner website.
