October 18, 2024 (press release) –

I have a few staff announcements this morning.

Leissa Jackmauh rejoined The Times as Kathleen Kingsbury’s assistant this year. She did a fantastic job of stepping right into the role, swiftly learning the ins and outs of the department. Leissa raised her hand to help with contracts, and she quickly learned the intricacies of our publishing schedule, contract language and payment processes. I am happy to report that she will take on the job full time, starting Monday. Congratulations, Leissa.

Please welcome Sarah Chatta, who joins Times Opinion on Monday as the editorial assistant supporting Lydia Polgreen and M. Gessen. Most recently, she was a fact-checker at The New Yorker, where her writing and translation have also appeared, and a freelance editor for Novaya Gazeta Europe. Before that, she taught media literacy in Uzbekistan, worked as an investigative story coordinator for “Inside Edition” and reported for The Chilkat Valley News in Alaska and the Daily News in Sri Lanka. She studied Russian and creative writing at Oberlin College.

Congratulations to Leissa and Sarah.
