February 21, 2025 (press release) –

I’m thrilled to share that Jenna Fowler, who has been a fantastic audience editor for Politics and Washington, has been promoted to senior audience editor. She will continue in her role as the audience editor for both desks while also joining Jennie Coughlin as a deputy to me on the Desk Audience Editors team.

In addition to Politics and Washington, Jenna will oversee our audience editing work across two other large news desks — National and Business — helping to strengthen collaboration at a crucial moment for our coverage.

Jenna has been a transformative force on the Politics desk, bringing deep expertise, sharp editorial instincts, and a data-driven approach to audience strategy. “Getting Jenna on the Politics desk was like getting a skeleton key, or a cheat code,” said David Halbfinger. “She opened our eyes to a huge range of information and served it up in the most useful and journalistically helpful ways. She is a wonderful partner to reporters and editors alike, and a terrific communicator — sensitive, a careful listener — who knows far more about just about everything than she necessarily lets on.”

Since adding Washington to her portfolio during the busy election season, Jenna “has jumped right in with the D.C. team, offering great ideas for headlines, smart story angles, explainers and more,” said Elizabeth Kennedy. “She’s helped us make sense of audience numbers.”

In her new role, Jenna will oversee the Business desk audience editor and the National desk audience editor.

Jenna started at The Times on the Editorial Search team. Before that, she worked as an audience editor at The San Francisco Chronicle and on Google’s Trends team.

Please join me in congratulating her.
