April 29, 2025 (press release) –

I am writing to share the fantastic news that Sharon Attia will join us as a senior social media editor.

Sharon has worked part time with Cooking since July, growing our presence and increasing engagement across Facebook, Pinterest, WhatsApp and other platforms. She has written clever and effective social copy, homepage headlines, recipe roundups, notifications and more. Now she will take on an expanded role in promotion strategy on- and off-platform as she joins us full time. She started Monday and will report to Margaux Laskey.

Sharon first joined The Times in 2018. She launched @nytgender, a pioneering Instagram account that was the first at The Times to use text on visuals. She then joined the main audience team and ran social media accounts covering breaking news and enterprise features. Sharon also edited and produced special projects like “Primal Scream,” “This Is 18,” “Being 13” and Overlooked.

Sharon was born and raised in Los Angeles and says she’s always in a better mood when there’s good sun and Mexican food around. Now she’s based in New York City, where she helps teach a course on reporting at New York University.

Her cross-team collaboration skills and audience insights have been invaluable, and we are thrilled to have her join the team full time.
