More than 60% of US voters agree government should make permitting process more efficient for clean energy infrastructure projects; Bipartisan Policy Center/Morning Consult poll finds finds 61% of voters support permitting reform, with only 13% opposed

A new national poll conducted by the Bipartisan Policy Center and Morning Consult finds a majority of voters (61%) support making the government permitting process more efficient for clean energy infrastructure projects, while just 13% opposed. 

“Streamlining the permitting process for clean energy infrastructure is critical to reaching net-zero emissions by 2050,” said Sasha Mackler, executive director of BPC’s Energy Program. “Faster permitting will also reduce energy costs, increase our national security, and create high skilled jobs.” 

BPC designed this poll to assess the level of existing support among Americans for speeding the review process for clean infrastructure projects, which currently face years and years of bureaucratic delays before construction can begin. 

Methodology: 

This poll was conducted between September 15- 17, 2022 among a sample of 2,005 registered voters. The interviews were conducted online and the data were weighted to approximate a target sample of registered voters based on gender by age, educational attainment, race, marital status, home ownership, race by educational attainment, 2020 presidential vote, and region. Results of the full survey have a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
