MEXICO CITY (apro) - In March, Mexico received 10.1% more international tourists compared to the same month of the previous year, informed the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

According to the report published on Monday, May 12 , during March 2025 , 8 million 368 thousand 662 visitors entered the country, while in the same period of 2024, the figure was 7.5 million.

Of the amount corresponding to the third month of this year, 4 million 188 thousand 343 were international tourists and 4 million 180 thousand 319 were excursionists who did not stay overnight in Mexico .

Between January and March of this year, 23.8 million international visitors arrived, 13.3% more than in the same period of 2024. Nearly 7 million arrived by air, with an average expenditure of 1,311.4 dollars , 5.2% more than in 2024 and 24.2% more than in 2019.

In addition, 3.4 million passengers arrived at Mexico's different ports by cruise ship, representing an increase of 11.5 percent, compared to the same months last year.

The Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, pointed out that, in March 2025 alone, foreign exchange income from visitor spending amounted to 3 billion 667 million dollars , representing an increase of 5.2% at an annual rate.

From January to March, 10 billion 268.5 million dollars came in from international foreign exchange, 5% and 45.8% more than in the same period of 2024 and 2019, respectively.

"These results are a clear reflection of the growth of tourism, which translates into great benefits for the national economy and well-being for resident communities, with the generation of employment and regional development in tourist areas. With the above, the good news sector continues to consolidate itself as a pillar (to) drive growth," concluded Rodriguez Zamora .

According to the World Tourism Organization , Mexico is the sixth most visited country in the world, after France , Spain , the United States , Italy and Turkey . On different occasions, President Claudia Sheinbaum has stated that her goal is to reach the "top 5".

The main national tourist sites, according to the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), are:

  • Cancun .
  • Los Cabos .
