The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), the Voice of the Recycling Industry™, commends the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) as today it announced its determination to reinstate certain previously granted and extended product exclusions in the China Section 301 Investigation.
“Reinstating and extending the Section 301 tariff exclusion on auto shredder wear parts will positively impact more than 200 U.S. auto shredders operating throughout the United States, and allow these businesses to continue to shred end-of-life vehicles and recycle these metals into commodity-grade raw materials that are essential for building infrastructure, strengthening supply chains for locally-manufactured materials, and contributing to a more sustainable circular economy,“ said Fred Fischer, ISRI assistant vice president of international trade.
The determination reinstates the tariff exclusion on shredder wear parts, retroactive to October 12, 2021, and extends the exclusion through December 31, 2022. Shredder wear parts imported from China will not be assessed the additional 25 percent tariff during this period. ISRI requested a tariff waiver extension in December 2021. USTR acted favorably on this request.
