Industrial seminar on the Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. Amman, Jordan.30/04/2025

AMMAN (ILO News) – In celebration of the International Day for Safety and Health at Work, the International Labour Organization (ILO), in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour (MoL), held a specialised seminar in Amman targeting around 50 occupational safety and health (OSH) and OSH compliance officers from factories operating under the Rules of Origin (RoO) framework. These included factories from Jordan’s key industrial sectors such as the garment, engineering, chemical and plastic sectors.

The RoO framework, linked to Jordan’s trade agreements with the European Union, allows eligible Jordanian manufacturers to access preferential trade terms for exports to the EU, provided they meet specific production and employment-related conditions, including decent work standards.

The event aimed to raise awareness and strengthen institutional capacity on the Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. Participants explored core international labour standards with a focus on occupational safety and health as well as the elimination of forced labour, through interactive discussions and peer learning.

The ILO and national stakeholders are reinforcing the foundations for sustainable and inclusive growth by equipping OSH and compliance officers with the tools and knowledge they need. The initiative is vital to advancing safer and fairer workplaces and promoting rights-based industrial development.

Held under the EU-funded, ILO-implemented project “Promoting Decent Work and Export Competitiveness under the Rules of Origin Framework in Jordan,” the seminar contributes to ongoing efforts to enhance workplace compliance, promote a culture of decent work and improve export readiness in Jordan’s industrial sectors.

This initiative reaffirms the ILO’s continued commitment to supporting the Government of Jordan and its partners in improving labour standards and fostering a competitive, rights-based industrial environment aligned with international standards.
