GPO Director Presents FY2024 Appropriations Request to Congress

The U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) Director Hugh Nathanial Halpern presented GPO’s FY 2024 appropriations request before the U.S. House and Senate Subcommittees on Legislative Branch Appropriations in the last week.

Halpern requested appropriations in the amount of $132,488,000, a two percent increase over GPO’s FY 2023 appropriation. This marks just the third time in a decade that GPO has requested an increase in appropriated funds. The FY 2024 request will enable GPO to:

  • meet projected requirements for congressional publishing;
  • fund the operation of the public information programs through which GPO administers the nationwide Federal Depository Library Program;
  • implement the recently enacted Access to Congressionally Mandated Reports Act; and
  • make capital investments and information technology upgrades.

“I appreciate being able to testify before the House and Senate committees and outline GPO’s priorities for the coming year. We are hoping to build upon the accomplishments and progress made during fiscal year 2022,” said Director Hugh Nathanial Halpern. “We closed FY 2022 in the black for the second straight year, with a net positive income of $26.2 million.”

Director Halpern highlighted GPO accomplishments and initiatives:

The Director’s Prepared Statements:
