LOS ANGELES , May 16, 2025 (Industry Intelligence Inc.) –
Georgia has introduced a pioneering carbon registry that awards carbon credits to sustainable mass timber building projects, the Macon Telegraph reported on May 16. The program, developed by the Georgia Forestry Commission and supported by bipartisan legislation, incentivizes construction using wood materials that capture and store carbon. With strict protocols for measuring stored carbon (embedded) and emissions avoided during production (embodied), the registry not only aims to boost environmental stewardship but also to stimulate economic growth through innovative construction practices. Although only one project – 619 Ponce in Atlanta – has been registered so far, state officials and industry leaders are optimistic that further development and similar initiatives in other states will follow.
