June 5, 2025 (press release) –

The accelerating climate crisis, environmental degradation, deforestation, and rapidly growing global population continue to pose serious threats to the sustainability of our planet. In response, GCA underscores the vital role of glass packaging in environmental preservation as part of its World Environment Day communications. Through its focus on energy-efficient production technologies, advanced waste management practices, and projects designed to raise awareness around recycling, GCA remains committed to safeguarding not only today’s resources but also those of future generations.

Ongoing industrialization, technological advancement, and demographic growth are increasing the pressure on global ecosystems and natural resources. Challenges such as climate change, the depletion of raw materials, and biodiversity loss have become some of the most urgent issues facing the world today. In this context, the importance of developing long-term, environmentally responsible solutions both at the individual and corporate level has never been greater.

Recognized globally on June 5 and designated by the United Nations to highlight critical environmental challenges, World Environment Day serves as a call to action for all stakeholders. Since its establishment in 2015, GCA has taken a leadership role in advancing sustainable and innovative solutions in the glass packaging industry, embedding sustainability as a core principle across all business operations.

“We place sustainability at the heart of how we do business”

“Sustainability is not merely an environmental initiative; it is a fundamental responsibility we carry for future generations,” said Dr. Abdullah Gayret, General Manager of GCA. “At GCA, we have fully integrated sustainability into the way we operate. We implement a wide range of initiatives aimed at reducing our environmental footprint such as improving energy efficiency, managing waste responsibly, and transitioning toward renewable energy sources. We also run training and public awareness programs to foster a culture of sustainability across communities. These efforts are guided by the strategic goals defined by our internal Sustainability Committee.”

“As part of our commitment, we conduct regular environmental audits to monitor emissions and ensure full compliance with applicable regulations. Our industrial waste is directed to licensed recycling facilities, and we actively support the reuse of treated wastewater. The regenerative system integrated into our G2 glass melting furnace, commissioned in 2021, has enabled us to significantly reduce energy consumption and minimize carbon emissions. We continuously enhance our environmental performance through rigorous monitoring of raw materials and flue gas emissions.”

“We are taking responsibility for the future starting today”

Highlighting the company’s efforts to drive industry-wide sustainability, Dr. Gayret added: “Our EKOMAT Project, which promotes 100% recyclability of packaging materials, was recognized with a Green Dot Industry Award in 2024. Organized by ÇEVKO, this award honors both national and global companies licensed to use the ‘Green Dot’ symbol in Türkiye. It is a testament to our environmental impact and corporate responsibility. Through our ‘Recycling Detectives’ initiative, we also engage primary school students in Kütahya through educational programs designed to foster environmental awareness from an early age.”

“In collaboration with the European Container Glass Federation (FEVE), we contribute to the roadmap aimed at making the glass packaging industry climate-neutral by 2050. Moreover, our solar power plant investment under Gürok Group is enabling us to further increase the share of renewable energy in our operations and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Looking ahead, we remain focused on developing innovative, eco-conscious practices to strengthen our leadership in sustainable manufacturing.”
