Environmental Packaging Summit to include presentation by Dr. Andy Rees OBE, head of waste strategy, resource efficiency and circular economy division, Welsh Government; Rees to explain how Wales has improved its recycling levels to become No. 2 globally

Packaging News has announced a presentation will take place by Dr Andy Rees OBE, head of waste strategy, resource efficiency and circular economy division, Welsh Government, at the Environmental Packaging Summit.

Taking place 24-25 June 2025 at the KIA Oval, London , Rees’ session – titled ‘Wales’ world leading success on high quality recycling’ – is scheduled for the morning on 24 June.

Rees will explain how over the last 25 years Wales has improved its recycling levels to become number two in world rankings.

He will emphasise the importance placed in Wales on high quality separate recycling of packaging, helping ensure that Welsh local authorities provide an efficient and effective service.

Rees has been head of waste strategy at the Welsh Government for the last 25 years and is responsible for waste and circular economy strategy policy.

He has 45 years experience of working in the environmental field, including spending the last 29 years in the area of waste strategy.

He was awarded an OBE by the Her Majesty the Queen for ‘services to the environment and recycling in Wales’ in the New Year Honours 2019.
