Albany, NY —
The following statement is attributed to Liz Moran, New York Policy Advocate for Earthjustice:
“Lawmakers are returning to Albany on Wednesday as New York braces for a wave of smoky air from climate-change induced wildfires. With the legislative session in its final days, New Yorkers are counting on the legislature to pass two common-sense bills that would reduce air and climate pollution, create good jobs, and cut costs: the Clean Deliveries Act and NY HEAT.” said Liz Moran, New York Policy Advocate for Earthjustice. “Year after year, everyday people are choking from wildfire smoke and counting on our legislature to lead. Now it’s up to the Senate and Assembly to put New Yorker’s health and safety first by passing these bills.”
About Clean Deliveries Act
The Clean Deliveries Act establishes an indirect source review (ISR) program for certain warehouse operations and requires the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to conduct a study regarding zero emissions zones.
About NY HEAT Act
The legislation would ensure there’s a plan to cap utility bills for low to moderate income households, eliminate needless fossil fuel subsidies, and bring the statewide gas distribution system into alignment with our landmark climate law. If this bill passes, New Yorkers that need it the most stand to save $136 per month.
