The Department of Health and Human Services March 18 announced that it renewed the public health emergency for the nation’s opioid crisis an additional 90 days. The PHE, first declared in 2017, was set to expire March 21. The declaration allows federal agencies to use every appropriate emergency authority to address the opioid crisis.
