A wake-up call for breakfast cereal manufaturers
Americans have lots to say about cereal these days. Unfortunately, most of it isn't good.
That's according to a recent report from Chicago-based market research firm Circana, which said while cereal remains the most popular item, unit sales decreased 5.4% for the 52 weeks ending Jan. 28.
In addition to cost, 73% of Americans list flavor and taste as the most important factors when choosing a breakfast cereal, and 32% of cereal buyers consider nutritional content, such as sugar and fiber, Circana said.
This is a wakeup call, cereal makers. You're losing ground!

General Mills + Ghost = new protein cereal
General Mills is well known for its iconic cereal products, so Ghost--a protein products maker--was in good hands when it developed and launched the new Ghost Protein Cereal in collaboration with General Mills.
The new cereal--which marked Ghost's entry into the space--comes in two varieties: Peanut Butter, which has 18 grams of protein per serving; and Marshmallow, which has 17 grams
Ghost believes its entrance into cereal is a logical conclusion for the brand, after Cereal Milk became one of its most popular protein powder flavors. For General Mills, it thinks the collaboration with a prominent brand in the protein space lends credibility to its aim to boost the presence of the nutrient in its products.
Sounds like a win-win all around.
