How BeyondHome helps feeds those in need through Chick-fil-A Shared Table

Personal hardships can happen to anyone at any time – changing the trajectory of their lives forever. In Arvada, Colo., local nonprofit BeyondHome and nearby Chick-fil-A® Wadsworth Bouelvard at 80th Avenue work together to help provide meals and support for people navigating difficult seasons of life.

Providing hope and a fresh start in Denver

In 1987, Colorado Homeless Families – now known as BeyondHome – was born from founder Connie Zimmerman’s desire to help an unhoused coworker. Since then, the nonprofit’s reach has grown exponentially and created transformative impact across the greater Denver area.

BeyondHome offers a holistic approach to helping families become self-sufficient and find stability. From providing affordable housing and consistent access to a food pantry to providing job training and other resources, the nonprofit aids those who have experienced addiction, personal trauma or other challenges – and helps them escape poverty and homelessness.

How extra chicken creates extraordinary impact

For those participating in BeyondHome’s self-sufficiency program, it’s important to have consistent access to food and the opportunity to prepare nourishing meals for their families.

That’s where Sheri O’Leary, the local Owner-Operator of Chick-fil-A Wadsworth Boulevard at 80th Avenue, comes in. Through the Chick-fil-A Shared Table® food donation program, Sheri and her Team Members save surplus food from their Restaurant – like chicken filets and nuggets, salads, biscuits and more – and donate them to BeyondHome’s food pantry.

Twice per week, more than 35 families participating in Beyond Home’s programming can pick up donated Chick-fil-A food items to prepare meals at home, like chicken alfredo pasta and breakfast casseroles.

“It’s super easy to put the chicken in a recipe or throw it in a dish for my daughter, and then that gives me a sense of empowerment as a mom,” says Karie E., a BeyondHome program participant.

Addressing huger and food insecurity across Colorado

Together, Sheri and her team have helped create more than 9,000 meals for those in need in Arvada. With more than 50 Chick-fil-A now restaurants participating in the Chick-fil-A Shared Table program across the state, the impact adds up: more than 775,000 meals have been created in Colorado through the Chick-fil-A Shared Table program since 2012.
