Monterrey, NL . In the framework of World Water Day, Arca Continental reinforces its commitment to the two fundamental goals of the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry (IMCC): To return to nature the equivalent of 100% of the water used in the production of its beverages and to provide access to clean water to one million Mexicans by 2030.

In Mexico , the lack of access to drinking water affects more than 12 million people. Committed to the sustainable development of Mexico , Arca Continental will continue to promote initiatives and programs that strengthen access to water in the communities where it operates based on three lines of action. Efficiency, Replenishment of Water Sources and Access to Water.

Efficiency: The Arca Continental bottling company has managed to reduce the water required to produce its beverages by 25% in the last ten years.

Replenishment of water sources: Treating 100% of the water that is not incorporated into its beverages, and donating it for irrigation of green areas.

An example of this was the direct connection of treated water from the Aguascalientes Plant to the municipal treated water network, which allows us to use up to 200,000 liters of water per day for the benefit of 8,000 square meters of green areas.

In addition, as members of the Monterrey Metropolitan Environmental Fund , they have contributed to the reforestation of 2,000 hectares of forests in Nuevo León.

Access to water: "Collaborating with authorities and civil organizations, we provide access to water to people with more than 50 schools with rainwater harvesting systems, benefiting 20,000 students and teachers in the states where we operate".

"These actions are part of Arca Continental's global sustainability strategy, through which it promotes the efficient use, replenishment and access to water in the communities of the five countries where it operates, and also contribute to the vision shared with the Coca-Cola Company ," commented Enrique Pérez Barba, director of Arca Continental Mexico.

Initiatives

To continue protecting water and the communities where it operates, this year the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry is promoting more than nine initiatives and alliances with key partners for the care, preservation and replenishment of clean water.

In collaboration with the organizations Toroto, Pronatura and Kilimo, through a joint investment of 87 million pesos , an ambitious strategy was developed to provide solutions and develop water preservation projects.

The execution of these projects will result in solutions in conservation, management, soil restoration and reforestation, as well as irrigation monitoring and responsible water use in agricultural areas.

In turn, as part of its commitment to promote resilience among communities, it will continue its efforts to build nature-based wetlands.

In 2021, an investment of more than 170 million pesos was announced for the construction of four wetlands in communities in Mexico . The first was inaugurated in 2022 and benefits 18,000 inhabitants in Cihuatlán, Jalisco ; this wetland also has a community nursery irrigated with clean water, producing 50,000 plants of different species, and making a difference to the economy of the families in this community.

This is how the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry is committed to taking action to strengthen water security in the country. And in the framework of World Water Day, it encourages collective action to protect this resource and share a better future.

"Water, like love, moves us all. Individually we are drops, but together we multiply our impact and form oceans of change," said Sergio Londoño , vice president of Public Affairs, Communication and Sustainability of Coca-Cola Mexico.
