As part of its annual meeting of the EU-based team members, the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) recently visited Mytilineos’ Aluminium of Greece Plant in Agios Nikolaus.
The visit featured a site tour as well as excellent presentations on the plant’s alumina refining, aluminium smelting and related operations, a session on human rights and equal opportunities, the bauxite mines Delfoi Distomon, responsible sourcing, and research and sustainable development activities.
ASI and Mytilineos discussed, among other issues, the implications of the EU directive on Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDDD) for supply chain management with an emphasis on defining and evaluating key suppliers resulting in a categorization of risk levels. High-risk suppliers with ESG deficiencies can then be identified and any issues addressed through targeted training programs. An engaging human rights and equal opportunities presentation highlighted Mytilineos’ efforts to uphold human rights and promote equal opportunities, and underscored Mytilineos’ strong commitment to ethical practices and inclusivity within its operations.
Feedback from Mytilineos on their experience as an ASI Member was positive, noting that ASI’s Standards provide guidelines on essential ESG pillars that help companies stay on track with sustainability performance. ASI’s alignment with other platforms, directives, and initiatives is also of significant benefit.
