KEMEROVO. June 18 (Interfax) - The Altailes holding company maintains its plans to commission a wood processing plant in Kemerovo in 2027, with the project cost remaining unchanged.
"The investor will allocate over 3.5 billion rubles to the facility, with total project investments exceeding 7 billion rubles when including forest area development," the press service of the Kuzbass regional authorities said.
The first project phase has now been completed, with temporary structures erected across over 40 hectares, earthworks finished and the power supply connected, the press service said. "The construction site is fully ready for workshop building assembly," it said.
The plant's capacity remains estimated at 450,000 cubic meters of laminated chipboard (particle board) annually. In addition, production of 28,493 cubic meters of sawn timber per year is planned, the press service said. The output is expected to be in demand for furniture manufacturing and construction. The project will create 421 jobs.
A key feature will be waste-free production utilizing low-grade timber as raw material. To ensure the wood supply, the project includes establishing its own logging operations with subsequent reforestation of harvested areas.
"This week, Rosleskhoz [the Federal Forestry Agency] approved the allocation of forest plots in Kuzbass for the Kemerovo Wood Processing Plant investment project, with an allowable annual timber volume of 697,500 cubic meters. Through the compensatory reforestation principle incorporated in the project, new forests will be planted over areas equivalent to those harvested during planned logging," it said.
As reported, Altailes began plant construction in December 2024.
According to Altailes Forestry Holding Company LLC's official website, the firm unites 14 forestry enterprises across Altai Territory and the Kemerovo region. According to its 2024 reports, the holding manages 902,500 hectares of Russian forest fund land. In 2024, Altailes posted 1.3 billion rubles in revenue compared to 1.1 billion in 2023 as well as 207.8 million rubles in net profit to Russian Accounting Standards (145.7 million rubles in 2023).
