May 5, 2025 (press release) –

Washington, DC– The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), Short Span Steel Bridge Alliance (SSSBA), and American Galvanizers Association (AGA) will host a free one-hour webinar, “Steel Bridges and Resilience: Engineering the Future of Infrastructure” on May 15, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. EDT to discuss research and resources to build more resilient bridges by two industry experts. The webinar is being held in conjunction with United for Infrastructure 2025, which is being observed May 12-16. Registration details are available here.

To build more resilient bridges, the future must start today. With innovative materials, designs and protection systems now available, the American steel and galvanizing industry is poised to deliver bridges that endure well into the next century—and beyond. The Short Span Steel Bridge Alliance (SSSBA) and the American Galvanizers Association (AGA) have developed free, essential resources to streamline steel bridge design and ensure long-term performance with a 100-year service life.

The webinar will be presented by Dr. Michael Barker, professor of civil and architectural engineering at the University of Wyoming and director of education for the Short Span Steel Bridge Alliance, and John Krzywicki, marketing director at the American Galvanizers Association. Dr. Barker’s primary research focuses on steel bridges, experimental testing, bridge design specifications, bridge field testing, high-performance steel and reliability analyses of structures. Krzywicki’s strong engineering background equips him with the technical knowledge necessary to effectively communicate design, performance, and sustainability considerations when using hot-dip galvanized (HDG) steel.

Join us during Infrastructure Week to explore these resources and gain the tools needed to build resilient steel bridges that stand up to tomorrow’s challenges.

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) serves as the voice of the American steel industry in the public policy arena and advances the case for steel in the marketplace as the preferred material of choice. AISI’s membership is comprised of integrated and electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmakers, steel pipe and tube manufacturers, and steel processors and fabricators reflecting the production and distribution of both carbon and stainless steels which are critical to the everyday lives of all Americans — including national security, roads and bridges, buildings, the electrical grid, clean energy technologies and the automotive market. AISI also represents associate members who are suppliers to or customers of the steel industry. For more news about steel and its applications, view AISI’s website at www.steel.org. Follow AISI on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter (@AISISteel) or Instagram.

The Short Span Steel Bridge Alliance (SSSBA) is a group of bridge and buried soil steel structure industry leaders who have joined together to provide educational information on the design and construction of short span steel bridges in installations up to 140 feet in length. The American Galvanizers Association (AGA) is a not-for-profit trade association dedicated to serving the needs of specifiers, architects, engineers, contractors, fabricators, and after-fabrication hot-dip galvanizers throughout North America. Since 1933, the AGA has provided information on the most innovative applications and state-of-the-art technological developments in hot-dip galvanizing for corrosion control. The AGA maintains a large technical library, provides multimedia seminars and offers a technical support line to assist specifiers. Learn more at https://galvanizeit.org/.
