Welcome To Holiday Eating Season 2018

LOS ANGELES , November 6, 2018 () – I’m writing this blog on an NFL Sunday, sitting in my living room with the NFL Red Zone on the TV and a package of mini Twix bars left over from Halloween in front of me.

Welcome to Holiday Eating Season 2018.

As many of us know, Halloween is typically when we start indulging a little more than we should on decadent foods and beverages, using the holidays, upcoming holidays or recent holidays as our excuse.

It typically starts around Halloween. You buy more candy than you end up giving away and one or both of the following happen: You a) snack on the leftover candy over the next couple of weeks (because it seems such a waste to throw those Twix bars away) and/or b) you bring your leftover candy to the office for your co-workers so that you’re not tempted to eat all of the candy yourself. Of course, that never works because other co-workers bring their own leftover candy into the office kitchen and you end up snacking on that!

Then in the days leading up to Thanksgiving, places like Starbucks and Krispy Kreme come out with their own holiday creations, and at some point you find yourself at one of these places and inevitably you partake because “hey it’s the holidays, so why not, right?”

Before you know it, it’s Thanksgiving, and we all know what awaits us. Turkey, stuffing, corn, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, ham and—at my house—my Dad’s world famous garlic cheese bread. You then have Thanksgiving leftovers for the next few days because, as we all know, that’s half the fun!

And then we’re in December, and that means Christmas goodies. Homemade cookies, chocolate-infused hot beverages, lots of food with “Christmas bark” and “peppermint” on the label, holiday potlucks and that’s before we get to the actual feasts on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!

We then finish up Holiday Eating Season 2018 with Christmas leftovers and a New Year’s Eve feast. And on Jan. 1, we punish ourselves by stepping on the scales and realizing that the past two months of decadence have taken a massive toll on your waistline.

And what comes next?

Dieting Season 2019!
